Botox Injections Houston

Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTA) is an enzyme from a deactivated bacterium, which relaxes muscles by blocking the corresponding nerve endings. Ophthalmologists have been using BTA for decades to treat ocular misalignment disorders and severe spasms of the eyelids and face. Ophthalmologists discovered that by using BTA at a lower dose, facial lines and wrinkles were significantly minimized.

The treatment is quick and requires no anesthesia. To make the procedure virtually pain-free, however, an advanced topical anesthetic or ice may be applied to the area. The benefits of this treatment can last an average of 3-6 months depending on the individual. Most patients, both women and men, are quite pleased with the results. You may resume your normal activity the same day.

In addition to Botox, another formulation of Botulinum Toxin Type A, Dysport, has been widely used in Europe for many years and entered the United States market in 2010. Many patients use this product as an alternative to Botox.

We currently use both Botox and Dysport formulations of BTA and create an individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Most Commonly Asked Questions

Q: Will I still be able to make a facial expression?

Yes. The targeted areas, such as the unwanted frowning expression, will be softened but other areas of facial animation will behave normally.

Q: Is there any risk of getting botulism or becoming ill?

No. You would have to use many bottles to achieve this toxic dose. We only use a small fraction of that amount, so it is virtually impossible.

Q: When may I resume my normal activities?

You may resume activites on the same day as treatment.
