Eyelid Cancer Treatment Houston

Cancer of the eyelid is one of the most common types of malignancy that occurs in the body. The most common place is in the tissue in and around the eyelids. It is estimated that almost half of all people sixty-five and older will have one type of skin cancer in their lifetime. The reason is that skin cancer is directly related to cumulative UV radiation (sunlight) exposure, combined with fair skin and eyes (genetic background).

This patient had a large central eyelid cancer removed
and a lateral flap was rotated in to cover the defect.

It is believed that the areas around the eyes act like a bowl and focus the rays from sun, which then bounce around in this area creating over exposure. Certain nationalities such as Scottish, Irish, Icelandic and Scandinavian, are more prone to skin cancer when they have spent a considerable amount of time in the sun. It is usually cumulative damage beginning in the teenage years until present.
